Save and use a profile

What you'll do: save a list of folders under a name, then back them up with one short command.
What you need: a terminal (profiles are only available on the command line).
How long it takes: 2 minutes.

The app has no profiles. Use Back Up → Only some folders and add the folders each time (see Back up only some folders), or use the command line for this.

  1. Save a profile called work with two folders:

    $ deucalion profile add work ~/Projects ~/Documents/Work
      work: /home/alex/Projects, /home/alex/Documents/Work

  2. Back up with it:

    $ deucalion backup --profile work
    Backing up to Alex Backup /media/alex/Alex Backup/Deucalion-Backup
    Backup plan (partial: /home/alex/Projects, /home/alex/Documents/Work)
      New files:               0   0 B
      Changed files: 0 0 B (previous versions go to _removed/)
      Gone/excluded:           0   0 B (moved to _removed/)
      Unchanged:             469   222.6 KB
    Everything is already up to date.
    Backup finished in 0s: copied 0 files (0 B), moved 0 items to _removed/.
    Log: /media/alex/Alex Backup/Deucalion-Backup/.deucalion/logs/2026-10-12_091022-backup.log

    Here nothing had changed, so nothing was copied.

  3. See your profiles with deucalion profile; change one by saving it again with the same name; delete one with deucalion profile remove work.

What you have now: a profile you can back up with deucalion backup --profile work.

Next steps: see deucalion profile for all options.
